Gehio Update

It's been a very rainy or very cold Winter in 2019. Thus, I've hardly geocached at all. My reading has slipped as well and many times those trips and books inspire or reveal some new topic I'd like to know more about and share in a Gehio post.
I did take an AncestryDNA test in December 2018 and I'll have a post about that soon since it is related to my Ohio history. On a similar note, I have a short bio I've been working on for a post about my maternal great grandfather's emigration to Ohio from Germany in the mid 19th century, and the trials and tribulations he endured.
I'm looking forward to nicer weather and new historical adventures!

  1. I just now (2-2-2021) came across your blog. You are an interesting dude and I wish I had found you sooner. It will take me a while to read them all but I hope you consider posting more of your historical adventures.

  2. Thanks Don. I’m still here. I changed jobs and I have less time to do these things but I’ll probably get back to it soon. Thanks for reading!

  3. I found your blog after seeing a story on Channel 12 tonight about Hillcrest Cemetery. It reminded me about the Cemetery on Duck Creek Rd in Madisonville close to where I grew up. Unfortunately, both cemeteries have not been taken care of very well. Around 1990-91, some friends and I were walking around ours, getting information off markers when one of the guys found remains. It made the news, but was QUICKLY forgotten. Hopefully both of these precious places will get the treatment they need and deserve. So MUCH history at both places. Thankfully, I have visited both, but not recently. Thank you for your knowledge and interesting posts on not only Hillcrest, but history. W.H.H. was a great article to read.

  4. I would like to correspond with you. I live at the property on Springdale Road where you posted the photo of the building on top of an Indian mound. My parents bought it in 1958 and it has been in the family since. Please contact me.

  6. Also, I re-read that post http://gehio.blogspot.com/2013/01/olde-coleraine.html and it doesn't look like I included any source. My information came from an email exchange with a member of the Coleraine Historical Society in 2011 when I asked some clarifying questions regarding some mound history that was on their website.
